As always, after the six-month check, I ask my dentist: ‘Are you going to Rwanda again soon?’
My dentist is an angel. If there is someone that I know that is entrepreneuring from the heart, it’s him. As soon as he can, he goes to Rwanda. Training other dentists in a country with a lot of toothache and hardly any medical assistance. In an institution without electricity and without running water. ‘Last year, they have helped 20,000 people out of their pain’, he says enthusiastically. Then a bit more somber: ‘This is just a drop on a glowing plate, according to some.’
What!!!?? 20,000 people get rid of toothache “just a drop”? I think of the singing bowl meditation where I just went to. There I had been laying, listening carefully to a sound disappearing, the sound created by a tap on a bowl. I had been wondering: when could you say that sound is really no longer there? When I could no longer hear it? Would it not be that it goes on forever? And I thought: this is also the case if you genuinely do something good for someone else. It may get out of your sight, but it works endlessly. Helping 20,000 people away from toothache is HUGE!
Dear entrepreneurs, don’t be discouraged if it all seems to have little or no effect. Doing business with integrity from your heart is endlessly powerful! (And will never have been for nothing)
